This is a picture of the plated step notch on my truck. The sides of the notch are one piece of 3/8" plate steel and the top and bottom are also one piece of 3/8" plate steel giving the notch both horizontal and vertical strength to resist bending and flexing where most conventional "C" and step notches bend.
